“..visibility is a portal for another woman to enter” – Theresa Lola
This was just one of the special statements shared on April 24th, the day where womens’ representation in politics reached a new level. A level to match mens’.
Emily Forbes & Emily Chappell we’re lucky enough to get up close to the unveiling of the Millicent Fawcett statue on Parliament square. They joined Dana Denis-Smith (a dear Seenit pal who made the statue happen) to watch the spectacle which included singing & passionate speeches from the likes of Sadiq Khan & Theresa May.
Being at the awesome event, both Emily’s got filming to share the atmosphere & experience of those in attendance. We interviewed Millicent’s great great Nephew, Hew Stevenson, who Chapps tracked down due to his superb commentary during the event. She also got to chat to Martha Lane Fox the female powerhouse behind lastminute.com & current board member of Twitter. With these impressive people on film, we thought to leverage their notoriety to further conversation.
There is still a way to go for female equality (learn more about that in our International Womens’ Day video). So, we extend the conversation outside Parliament Square & beyond April 24th. We called out to our network asking ‘what Millicent’s place on Parliament Square means to them.’ & what they believe is the next frontier for women is – all of this sourced through a Seenit Project of course.
Hear what our people had to say & learn more about Millicent in this Seenit original
